After leaving my walk on the hillside above the city with Tim, I made my way through the very hilly streets (all throughout Rome), climbed the steps up near another museum through a small alleyway, and around the corner when I finally saw it.....the Ancient Rome I had always pictured; AMAZING! I can't even describe the emotion in viewing the site and imagining what had happened here so long ago.
The Forum covers a span of land near the Colloseum with the ruins of Ancient history. I LOVED this part of Rome. I walked around the outside of the Forum and the Colleseum as I was not about to wait 2 hours to get in. It was crowed down there anyway but I wish I would have done this tour instead of the Vatican. It depends on what you enjoy most...art history or archeological ancient history....and I love the latter.
That evening I enjoyed my first Italian pizza. It was delicious with its special, fresh, simple tomato sauce, buffalo mozzarello and thin crust. Quite different form Chicago style and I was much more comfortable after the meal than when eating it in the states; again, not bloated as from American style pizza of heavy crusts and piles of cheese.

It was a beautiful summer evening so I walked around and I sat outside at a small ristorante to have a drink and write. While there I visited with an older couple from New Zealand. They were very sweet and enjoyable. These are the joys of traveling in foreign countries, you meet great people from all over the world and en up having more places to visit and places to stay. Funny thing is that I don't think I ever really sat and talked with a born and raised Italian though.
Off to bed early for another long day in Rome but next up.....THE PASTA MAKING CLASS!!!
Although I went to bed early, it was a very long night. I had new roomates come in at 11 and 1 and 3 and 4AM and they were NOT quiet by any means. One of the very few downsides of staying in hostels. This was the beginning of my hectic next morning.
