Special Chocolate Ricotta Cake

July 3rd, 2011

As I previously stated, I extended my morning in Rome, JUST to stop at the no-name tiny bakery for a slice of the chocolate ricotta cake. After checking out of the hostel, I left my bag before walking about 30 minutes to the Jewish Quarter once again. The bakery, located in Piazza Costaguti, was about the size of a small den and the choices were very minimal but I only came for 1 thing which I am sure is not very different from most other customers. Four Roman Jewish woman were working away in the tiny kitchen and behind the counter, preparing goodies for the day and visiting joyfully with regular customers coming in and out. I ordered the cake and the woman behind the counter wrapped it up for me to-go. With cake in hand, I walked a few blocks to a small coffee shop and sat outside in the open air soaking up the sun, sipping an Americano and slowly enjoying the amazing cake. It consisted of a sort of shortbread crust and was filled with ricotta and melted chocolate. It was so filling that I unfortunately could not stomach it all. It may not look very pretty but it was delizioso! and ABSOLUTELY recommended! The bakery sits in the Piazza Costaguti and if you are walking by this culinary jewel, you have to look closely or you can easily miss it.

Morning mission accomplished! One more walk by The Forum and to the train station for the quick trip to Florence.
